I'm busy working on my blog posts. Watch this space!
School is over... Yay, more school!
February 24, 2016
I'm obsessed with going to school. Really. I just discovered that. I have just managed to complete my studies at the Ljubljana Academy. My thesis was still warm form the printer when I was on the train travelling to audition for... Yup. More school :)
I got into the Mainz Hochscule Barock Vokal programme. It sounds really promising and doable - it has to fit with my family life and hopefully future work oportunities.
Here's the link, if anyone's interested in exploring Baroque repertoire: http://www.barockvokal.de/
And then there's the various summer schools. I drool over the glossy brochures and wonderful web sites...And wonder how many I can apply for without going broke and driving my long suffering husband insane. But it's just so great to learn new things! And safe, somehow. It's not really real, you're there to learn and you're paying. So it's OK to make mistakes. Unlike the very real world of auditioning. Argh.
Here are three of my favourite summer schools for early music singers:
Dartington Internatinal Summer School. Just awesome on every level. Lots of fun, very friendly. It allows you
do many different things but you don't get a lot of individual time with tutors. Great for contacts and performance opportunites. Auditions for some courses are very competitive because of world-renowned tutors (Emma Kirkby!)
Steglitzer Tage fur Alter Musik (http://www.dtkv-berlin.de/news.html?item_id=173) A rather obscure little course (so no audition!), relatively cheap but with excellent tutors and lots of individual coaching. Stage coaching is available as well. Great for your first try at Baroque opera.
Triora Musica (http://www.trioramusica.com/)
I think this one will be faboulous. I'm attending this June and it looks awesome. It's in Liguria (summer in Italy!) , it offers a student discount and great tutors. Lots of different things to do, whether it's opera, ensemble singing, wonderful pollyphony... Whatever rocks your boat.
